Keller seeks re-election in West Dundee

Ask yourself, is the Village better off now then it was a decade ago? Higher taxes-- both sales and property, no Randall Road business, a divided community, more traffic and congestion, retail outlets moving OUT of our town, budget shortfall. I am not saying this is ALL his fault but the phrase asleep at the wheel does come to mind.

We need new people at the helm of our village. People that are willing to be be a part of a fiscally responsible open government and embrace smart growth.

It should be obvious that Springhill Mall is losing tenants to the Randall Road "lifestyle centers" in Algonquin. The owner of the mall is in financial trouble and is not likely to be willing or able to do something radical to reverse this trend. A big box store that is a destination is the logical replacement for a retail center that has lost a critcal mass of smaller stores. What is Dundee Neighbors proposing to replace the diminishing tax base of West Dundee. for that matter who are the people hiding behind the name "Dundee Neighbors"?

Dundee Neighbors is an organization of concerned residence taking issues with the running of the Village.
Larry Keller is a resident that has taken time to manage the Village to the best of his ability. It is the cycle of government that people become disenchanted with the current situation and want change. This cycle has played out in many parts of the world over many centuries and will continue on as long as humans inhabit the planet.
The Village President and Village Manager are the two primary people responsible for the Village. If Mr. Keller is defeated, or not, in the upcoming election it will be the responsibility of the new Board to also remove the Village Manager. Mr. Cavallero (sp) has spent many years it his position, most of them during a booming economy and hasn’t been faced with business declines, lost sales revenue and other economic hardship. This only leads to the point that Mr. Cavellero lacks true management skills/abilities. The Board is also at fault for letting him stay in his position for such a long time. When the Board and Manager run for cover and suggested a “New Residence Tax” for people buying houses in the Village to fill a budget gap a new low had been reached. My mistake, the new low was the threat of raising property taxes when their “New Residence Tax” failed in November. This shows that Village management can’t make the hard business decisions to cut budgets and balance the books.
The upcoming elections will be crucial for the village and a number of residence have thrown in their hat to replace many of the sitting Board. My only concern is what qualifications do any of them have in budgeting, finance, economic development and political savvy in running the village? We are a critical juncture in West Dundee and choices will have to be made regarding our future.

We are planning a meeting in the next month--a newsletter was sent out Thursday. Come and meet us. We also hosted a block party in October that we invited the entire community to. We are an open and inclusive group--I know that is hard to understand after dealing with the closed door secret society of our current Village operations!!

Anonymus - I am not hiding behind "Dundee Neighbors", I am a Dundee Neighbor. Anonymus - by the way, who are you?

Has Walmart helped East Dudnee? Why don't they look at relocating within that village, instead of leading the effort to steamroll the residents of West Dundee with the help of our village staff, president and board?

Can you please clarify who exactly your group is supposed to represent? I got yet one of your newsletters in the mail today [addressed to "West Dundee Resident", but I live in East Dundee. Your activities are completely West Dundee-centric - so shouldn't you call yourselves "West Dundee Neighbors"?

When Dundee Neighbors was originally formed, residents from East Dundee became involved because of the effect of the Wal-Mart issue on both communities' traffic, tax bases, and environment.

Okay - so maybe it's time to change your mailing label software, huh? I am not a "West Dundee Resident", so please don't address my mail as such!

Just an FYI that Mike Elmore may file to be a write-in candidate for Village President until as few as 7 days before the election.

The rules are stated at http://www.kanecountyelections.org/Candidates/writein.asp, and partially summarized below:

"Only candidates who file a Declaration of Intent to be a Write-In Candidate may be considered as a write-in candidate. Candidates can file as a write-in candidate until 5:00 p.m. on the 61st day prior to the election... However, whenever an objection to a candidate's nominating papers or petitions for any office is sustained under Section 10-10 after the 61st day before the election, then write-in votes shall be counted for that candidate if he or she has filed a notarized declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for that office with the proper election authority or authorities not later than 7 days prior to the election. [10 ILCS 5/7-59 (b), 17-16.1, 18-9.1]"

Larry, I give you credit for keeping control of your fiefdom. Having your partners in crime and let alone yourself doom your only challenger to the office likes you to the president of Venezuela. You might just call yourself Hugo Chavez.
Absolute power corrupts and you have proven that point to the citizens of West Dundee. I have given you the benefit of the doubt in the past, but you have lost my support and my families. I hope the good people of West Dundee know what they are in for if you are elected. More of the same dictatorship run village.
I do hope Mr. Elmore has the chance to be a write it candidate because he will get the vote in my family.
I gave serious thought to challenging you this time around, but having a full time job and other commitments to other organizations I passed on the opportunity. If I am still a resident of West Dundee the next election cycle – I will not let this happen to the good citizens of West Dundee again. No election should go without challenge!
